News Investigator, confirmed that the fire incident started at about 1:30a.m with very devaststing effect.
Mr Abdulrahman Yusuf, the chairman of Traders Association in Plateau who spoke to journalists in Jos disclosed that over 270 shops with properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
Yusuf on narrating to news men further said, “one trader in this market lost goods worth over N20 million.
He however,called on the government to come to the aid of the traders, to enable them come back to business.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) equally has it that, the market which was in 2001 razed by fire with several properties destroyed, now has petty traders with make-shift shops as occupants.
The state Commissioner of Police Mr Adie Undie, told newsmen that the fire which started around 1:30a.m, was yet to ascertain the cause of the inferno.
And with quick intervention of his Men and that of the Department of Fire Service the devastating nature of the fire brought to a low tension.
He further said his officers were able to cordon the arena and ensure hoodlums didn’t take undue advantage of the situation to loot, ”
The Police commissioner said he would liaise with relevant authorities to unravel the cause of the fire.
He did said his men would remain at the scene to ensure miscreants do not take undue advantage to loot.
