A Magistrates' Court on Friday requested that a 32-year old driver, Savior Dabo of Bam town, Makurdi, who the police blamed for kidnapping and constraining a 22-year-elderly person, Helen Ijir, into prostitution be remanded in jail.
The Magistrate, Mr P.S Chaha, dismissed the issue until Nov 21, for further notice as the request of the blamed couldn't be taken for need of purview.
Police accused Dabo of three tallies of criminal connivance, kidnapping, and trafficking in ladies.
The prosecutor, Mr Godwin Nev, told the court that the mother of the person in question, Mrs Juliana Ijir, of Behind Modern Market, Makurdi announced the issue at the 'D' Division Police Station on Sept 7, 2018.
Nev said that Helen's mom revealed that her girl was absent.
Nev said after a pursuit, on Sept 15, Helen called her from Ouagadougou, claiming that the denounced took her there to work for him.
The prosecutor said that the denounced constrained the unfortunate casualty into prostitution.
He said that the injured individual could escape from the men that the denounced constrained her to live with.
The prosecutor educated the court that the charged individual was later captured when he returned home.
As indicated by the prosecutor, the offense negated the arrangements of Sections 97 and 283 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State, 2004 and Section 3(2) of the Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Law of Benue, 2017.
